Trouble Don't last summary
This book is about a slave boy named Samuel. He works in his slave owners home and has harsh conditions as his master and master's wife give him no mercy for mistakes he makes. One night, Harrison, a fellow slave who is much older than Samuel comes to get Samuel in the night and they start their journey to the North to escape slavery. On the way to freedom they meet many people who all have unique stories and find times that are scarier than even Master Hackler himself. With extreme courage, the two finally make it to freedom.
How this will be used in the curriculum
I would use this book in social studies. Since this book is all about slavery and the underground railrod, I would use it to help students see the perspective of a boy who is about their age and trying to get out of slavery. I think that this book would be good for students to read while learning about slavery because it gives the perspective of someone their age. I would ask students in my classroom to write a journal entry about how they would feel if they were in Samuel's position.
